Job Overview:

We are seeking a highly knowledgeable and experienced Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Manager to oversee and implement safety programs within our organization, ensuring full compliance with California state regulations and federal standards. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience managing EHS activities, with a strong emphasis on handling and managing chemicals safely. This role requires proactive leadership to promote a safety-first culture and ensure environmental and safety regulations are met across all operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive EHS policies and procedures in line with California OSHA (Cal/OSHA) , EPA , and other relevant local and federal regulations.
  • Oversee chemical safety programs, including proper handling, storage, disposal, and emergency response for hazardous materials.
  • Conduct regular safety audits, risk assessments, and environmental inspections to identify potential hazards, recommend corrective actions, and ensure compliance.
  • Lead the development and execution of hazardous communication programs, including Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS/SDS) and employee training on chemical handling.
  • Coordinate environmental compliance efforts, including air, water, and waste management programs, in accordance with California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and other state regulations.
  • Administer health and safety training programs for employees, including emergency preparedness, incident response, and chemical safety.
  • Investigate workplace accidents, injuries, and environmental incidents, conducting root cause analysis and implementing corrective measures to prevent recurrence.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (operations, maintenance, and HR) to ensure EHS standards are integrated into daily operations.
  • Maintain documentation and reporting for all EHS programs, including OSHA logs, permits, and regulatory reports.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for government and regulatory agency inspections and inquiries, ensuring full compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives by staying up-to-date on industry trends, new technologies, and changing regulations related to environmental health and safety.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health & Safety, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in an EHS role with specific expertise in California regulations and chemical safety management.
  • In-depth knowledge of Cal/OSHA, CEQA , and EPA regulations, especially those pertaining to chemical manufacturing or hazardous materials.
  • Strong understanding of chemical safety protocols, HAZMAT , and regulatory requirements for storage, handling, and disposal of hazardous substances.
  • Proven experience conducting risk assessments, managing incident investigations, and implementing safety training programs.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally and lead teams toward a culture of safety.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to anticipate and address potential EHS risks proactively.

Preferred Skills:

  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) , Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) , or other relevant certifications.
  • Experience with ISO 14001 or other environmental management systems.
  • Familiarity with hazardous waste management and environmental permitting processes in California.
  • Knowledge of emergency response planning and spill containment procedures.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish (preferred but not required).
