Job Title: Student Intern, Alumni Interest Groups (AIG)
Intern: 10-20 hours/week
Supervisor: Associate Director, Alumni Programs

Hourly Rate: 15/hr-$18/hr, commensurate with applicable experience

GENERAL SUMMARY

The UVA Alumni Association’s mission is to build the strongest bond among alumni, and between alumni and the University of Virginia, while representing the independent voice and perspectives of alumni.

This Student Intern (SI) works within the Alumni Programs team of the Association’s Engagement Programs department to support the work of up to 35 Alumni Interest Groups (AIGs). The SI is responsible for creating and implementing an AIG’s outreach and engagement plans through the design and production of electronic and print media, including informational newsletters and communications, fundraising solicitations, and the management of an online presence.

A successful candidate will have interest and experience in building and strengthening alumni relationships; demonstrated core competencies in graphic design, marketing, and web content publishing; and the ability to work on multiple timelines with diverse stakeholders in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Responsible for copyediting all materials received from alumni volunteers
• Create broadcast emails, newsletters, and printed materials including multi-page newsletters, annual reports, solicitation mailings, event materials, and additional materials as necessary
• Coordinate mailing lists for electronic and printed materials with AIG Team
• Implement communications strategies through web content publishing
• Create graphics to be used in communications and online event registration forms
• Build and record projects in the Association’s Collaborative Work Management system
• Track and record communications metrics (distribution numbers, response rates, open rates, registration rates, and others as necessary)
• Save files received from alumni volunteers to shared Microsoft Teams team

EDUCATION & BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

• A student working towards a degree from the University of Virginia and/or an active knowledge of the University and its mission and traditions is preferred but not required
• Proficiency working with Adobe Creative Cloud and Microsoft Office required
• Proficiency working in a website content management system required
• WordPress experience preferred
• Graphic design experience preferred
• Proficiency working with an email sending platform (ESP) preferred
• Experience creating and implementing communications and outreach strategies preferred

SKILLS/CERTIFICATIONS/ABILITIES

• WordPress and Salesforce Marketing Cloud experience preferred
• Strong written and verbal communication
• Exceptional organizational skills and keen attention to detail
• Excellent time management, including the ability to proactively manage and prioritize multiple projects and timelines simultaneously
• Strength in strategic planning and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively, with a variety of stakeholders
• Demonstrated ability to learn and use new platforms as needed
• Collaborative and creative problem-solver

ENVIRONMENTAL/WORKING CONDITIONS

• A dynamic hybrid work environment requiring at least eight hours in the office each week (on varying days), with the flexibility to work remotely or in the office on other days, based on scheduling availability
• This position has flexible work hours, with the ability to complete tasks outside of traditional business hours
• This position is based in the Commonwealth of Virginia
