Position Overview This position as part of the
Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (AME) organization will support process development and optimization of Proterra's various electrical interconnect manufacturing processes. This highly collaborative position is a key part of the Battery Technology organization. You will work with other leaders, engineers, and technicians to establish Proterra as a world-class manufacturer of battery-based energy storage.
About the Role - You will: - Lead development of battery module and battery pack manufacturing electrical interconnect processes
- Guide equipment design and specification related to electrical interconnect processes to ensure the process can meet yield, quality, and throughput requirements
- Act as Subject Matter Expert (SME) on all electrical interconnect related manufacturing processes for Proterra's Battery-based Energy Storage.
- Conduct Research into new electrical interconnect technologies and equipment to drive further innovation in Proterra's Manufacturing Capabilities.
- Collaborate with suppliers to develop new advanced equipment and processes as relates to Proterra's electrical interconnect
- Work cross functionally with internal and external teams to ensure electrical interconnect processes can meet target yield and product performance requirements at desired manufacturing volumes.
- Create qualified procedures and sample analysis to ensure quality and performance is being met periodically in production
- Use statistics and data skills to optimize manufacturing processes in production
- Perform Design of Experiments to help optimize welding parameters, tooling/product design, and materials
- Create and execute test plans to validate new manufacturing equipment for production line launch
- Provide DFM feedback to design engineers to ensure products can be welded and electrically connected at high yield in a high-volume manufacturing environment
About Our Group: - The Advanced Manufacturing Engineering group seeks to develop innovative new manufacturing processes and automation tools to establish Proterra as a world leader in battery pack manufacturing. It is comprised of several different teams focused on different aspects of battery manufacturing, including process development and automated manufacturing equipment design.

- You will report within the AME Organization and collaborate with other team members located at our headquarters in Burlingame and our manufacturing facility near Greenville, SC.

Your Experience Includes: - Bachelor's degree in Engineering or similar technical field. Example Majors include: Welding Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Material Science, Physics, Mechanical Engineering
- Experience with various welding technologies. For example: resistance welding, laser welding, ultrasonic welding, MIG/TIG welding, Electron Beam Welding, ect.
- Experience in a manufacturing engineering role or similar technical role where you optimized a highly technical manufacturing process
- Experience running line trials/design of experiments and analyzing results
- Knowledge of welding related failure modes
- Familiarity with data analysis and statistics
- Hands on experience in high or low volume manufacturing environments
- Working understanding of manufacturing engineering metrics and concepts (Cycle time, quality control, efficiency, equipment selection, return on investment, etc)
You Might Also Have: - Mechanical Aptitude
- Familiarity with electric vehicle battery manufacturing processes
- Data Analysis Skills in MATLAB, Python, R, Minitab, ect.
- Project Management experience
- Programming experience

- Compensation: $159,300 - $194,700
