Job Description

We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Sign Language Interpreter to work one-on-one with a student who is Deaf or hard of hearing in a virtual school environment. In this role, you will play a crucial part in facilitating communication by interpreting spoken language into American Sign Language (ASL) during live virtual classes and events. Your expertise will help ensure that the student has full access to educational content and can engage with lessons, just like their peers.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide live interpretation of spoken language into American Sign Language (ASL) during virtual classes, meetings, and school events, ensuring seamless communication.
Act as the bridge for effective communication between educators and Deaf or hard of hearing students, helping to enhance their learning experience.
Collaborate closely with teachers to understand lesson plans and the specific needs of the student to ensure accurate and meaningful interpretation.
Maintain the highest standards of confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions.
Stay updated on the latest trends and best practices in virtual learning environments, as well as advancements in educational technology.
Foster an inclusive and supportive environment that encourages participation and engagement for students with hearing impairments.

Qualifications:

EIPA score of 4.0 or higher, or a valid RID-NIC certificate.
Proven experience as a Sign Language Interpreter, particularly in educational settings.
Strong understanding of Deaf culture and the communication access needs of Deaf and hard of hearing students.
Comfort and proficiency with technology platforms used for virtual learning.
Ability to work with a diverse range of students and adapt to varying schedules.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a commitment to creating an inclusive and accessible learning environment.
