Senior Technical Manager, Environmental Science Join to apply for the Senior Technical Manager, Environmental Science role at WSP in the U.S. Overview The Senior Technical Manager, Environmental Science provides high level technical assistance and guidance for collecting, identifying, compiling, and analyzing observational and spatial data for natural resources. Supports environmental permitting projects across multiple sectors. Ensures that documentation and recommendations describe results of analyses and address environmental impact in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and policies suitable for permit documentation. Assists project leadership with environmental impact assessment, corrective/mitigation strategy development, permitting, and restoration activities. Delivers responsibilities at a quality level that meets or exceeds industry standards. Responsibilities Lead and provide guidance with data collection efforts for identifying wetlands, streams, sensitive habitats, and other natural resources for projects. Use topographic maps, aerial photographs, GPS units, and other tools to determine exact locations of project areas, site impacts, habitat types, and associated sensitivities. Analyze literature, data, and other sources to identify direct, indirect, and cumulative environmental impacts. Prepare and complete environmental survey reports, data entry, impact assessments, and permitting activities for assigned projects (e.g., Endangered Species Act, Clean Water Act permitting, SEPA, NEPA). Perform professional environmental science work and conduct investigations, inspections, and environmental studies to gather information and plan for future environmental needs. Prepare data and visualizations (tables, charts, reports, models, cross sections) for interpretation or presentation of complex data and findings. Prepare comprehensive technical reports and presentations that explain research, findings, and recommendations to address, prevent, control, or restore environmental problems. Oversee and monitor cross functional teams in executing project work, permitting strategy, environmental impact assessments, and regulatory compliance, including budgets, hours, expenses, and task completion. Provide high level oversight for desk-based research, fieldwork, and/or laboratory work, including measurements, data interpretation, and computer modeling. Provide environmental risk identification and impact assessment, contributing to action plans for moderate- to high-level threat mitigation and permitting activities to minimize environmental and public health impacts. Assist with development and scoping of medium-to large-sized projects. Coordinate with clients, regulatory agencies, and environmental staff in a confident and professional manner. Collaborate with professionals from multiple disciplines to deliver future-ready solutions for clients. Remain current in the latest environmental science subject matter and techniques. Engage in business development and proposal writing as appropriate. Adhere to WSPs Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures; exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds and resources. Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs. Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Ecology, Natural Resource Management, or a related life sciences field. 10+ years of experience as an environmental scientist including surveys, fieldwork, habitat and impact assessments, environmental permitting documents, and/or construction monitoring. Strong environmental science/ecology skills with expertise in specific ecosystem, habitat, and/or applicable species. Experience with relevant environmental laws, permitting requirements, notification and compliance practices, and regulatory frameworks at local/state/federal levels. Experience coordinating with regulatory permitting and resource agencies and environmental staff. Knowledge of water quality, soil remediation, mitigation, habitat and watershed restoration. Experience leading and reviewing environmental science technical reports, environmental impact evaluations, siting reports, and permit applications, including field surveys and reporting and impact evaluations. Experience with NEPA/SEPA or other environmental analyses and preparation of related documentation. Strong self leadership, interpersonal communication, and ability to work with employees at all levels of the organization. Ability to work independently and lead junior staff, with strict QA/QC adherence. Proficiency with technical writing, office software, technology, and tools. Strong critical thinking and problem solving skills for data interpretation and solution identification. Commitment to workplace safety and adherence to WSP health, safety, and harassment policies. Flexibility to accommodate varying schedules and adapt to changing priorities in a fast paced environment. Occasional travel may be required dependent on project requirements. Preferred Qualifications Essential professional licensure/certification. Experience with discipline-specific software (e.g., ArcGIS). Basic First Aid and Adult CPR training desired.
