Summary :

The Senior Corporate Director of Regulatory Affairs for Penn Medicine provides leadership and strategic direction across the health system in all aspects of continuous survey readiness for CMS, TJC, PA & NJ DOH, and other regulatory and accrediting organizations. This role involves working with corporate and entity senior leadership and quality/regulatory directors to establish processes that optimize outcomes and minimize citations in a cost-effective manner. The position is reports directly to the Chief Medical Officer of Penn Medicine.

Responsibilities :
  • Regulatory Readiness: Develop and implement cost-effective approaches to assess and ensure regulatory readiness. Provide strategic consultation and coordination for regulatory compliance across Penn Medicine. Convene and chair system-wide regulatory forums to discuss and address regulatory issues. Ensure compliance with regulatory policies and standards, supporting clinical integration by standardizing regulatory policies. Serve as the primary point of accountability for regulatory needs and compliance.
  • Collaboration and Coordination: Work closely with senior leadership, quality/regulatory directors, and other departments to establish and maintain regulatory processes. Collaborate with Information Systems (IS) and other departments to ensure regulatory compliance. Prepare and present reports on regulatory readiness and compliance to senior leadership. Organize, synthesize and disseminate findings from all hospitals and practices after site visits from DOH and TJC, ensuring comprehensive and actionable insights.
  • Patient Safety and Quality Improvement: Oversee the quality assurance and performance improvement (QAPI) program, ensuring continuous improvement in quality of care. Manage and resolve patient grievances and complaints, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. Monitor and manage regulatory compliance and licensure requirements for Penn Medicine. Collaborate with system-wide patient safety teams to address patient safety events and concerns, ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements and organizational patient safety initiatives.
  • Management and Leadership: Manage and provide leadership to all entity directors of regulatory affairs, ensuring alignment with Penn Medicine goals and regulatory requirements. Provide day-to-day management and mentorship to regulatory affairs staff.
  • Policy Alignment: Ensure alignment of all system policies for patient care and clinical practice with regulatory standards and organizational goals. Develop and implement standardized policies and procedures across the health system to ensure consistency and compliance. Review and update policies periodically, and as required, to ensure compliance with changes in regulations and evolving best practices.
  • Education and Training: Serve as enterprise experts on policies and standards related to regulatory matters Educate and train departments on regulatory standards and compliance requirements. Provide ongoing education on updates to regulatory standards and best practices.
Credentials :
  • Registered Nurse - PA (Required)
Education or Equivalent Experience:
  • Master of Arts or Science Nursing, Healthcare Administration, Public Health, or a related field (Required)
  • And 15+ years Healthcare regulatory experience (required)
  • 5+ years' Experience in a Senior management role (required)
  • Previous experience in solid organ transplant and QAPI programs (preferred)
  • Doctorate Degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, Public Health, or a related field (preferred)
