Position Summary
We are seeking a Senior Construction Project Accountant to manage and oversee the financial aspects of our construction projects from inception to completion. This role requires a proactive individual with a strong understanding of construction accounting principles, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to work effectively with project teams. A successful construction accountant will demonstrate excellent business acumen and the ability to minimize production costs through efficient accounting practices. Ultimately, we are looking for an analytical and detail-oriented individual with a high level of financial accuracy.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Management
Monitor project budgets, costs, and financial performance to ensure adherence to budgetary constraints.
Prepare and analyze monthly financial reports, including budget vs. actual variances, cost forecasts, and project profitability.
Collaborate with the Project Manager to develop comprehensive project budgets.
Billing and Invoicing
Prepare and submit progress billings, ensuring timely and accurate invoicing to clients.
Collect and review monthly subcontractor billings (G702 or equivalent) to ensure accuracy and completeness.
Present corrected subcontractor billings to the Project Manager for approval.
Track and manage accounts receivable, following up on outstanding invoices to ensure prompt payment.
Allocate owner payments to the correct projects upon receipt.
Cost Control
Review and approve project-related expenses, purchase orders, and subcontractor invoices.
Conduct regular cost reviews and implement cost-saving measures as needed.
Analyze all transactions and incorporate unforeseen costs into project budgets.
Contract Management
Assist in the preparation and review of contracts, ensuring compliance with company policies and project requirements.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date contract records, including change orders and amendments.
Generate financial reports for project managers, executives, and clients, providing insights into project financial health.
Audit and Compliance
Ensure compliance with company policies, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
Prepare for and participate in internal and external audits as needed.
Facilitate timely payments to subcontractors upon receipt of owner payments and ensure timely vendor payments.
Required Skills and Abilities
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
Strong analytical and mathematical abilities.
Proficient in Procore and Sage Intacct accounting software
In-depth knowledge of construction cost accounting and related financial practices.
High attention to detail and accuracy.
Ability to multitask and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
Good interpersonal skills to foster strong vendor and supplier relationships.
Capability to work for extended periods at a desk and on a computer.
Ability to lift up to 15 pounds as needed.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in private or public accounting within the construction industry.
