About the Job The Translational Neural Engineering Laboratory at the University of Minnesota is seeking a Research Professional 2 (Software Engineer) interested in working at the intersection of technology, neuroscience, and mental health. Our laboratory has multiple projects involving electrical recording, optical and electrical brain stimulation, and real-time signal processing in actively behaving animals, focusing on brain-computer interfaces. The technologies developed aim to influence activity in specific brain circuits involved in severe mental illnesses such as PTSD, major depression, addiction, and obsessive-compulsive disorder, some of which are in clinical trials. This role supports cross-project collaboration, working with lab researchers to develop, maintain, and extend real-time brain signal processing and experiment control systems. These systems primarily read emotion-related activity from the brain and control stimulators that respond within milliseconds. They also administer controlled visual, auditory, and tactile stimuli to research subjects. The software base is mainly in C derivatives and Python, with some legacy MATLAB and LabVIEW components. It is an open-source architecture, and part of the role involves supporting users both inside and outside the team. Job Duties/Responsibilities: 70% code development and testing in C-related languages, including direct laboratory testing. 20% collaborating with team members and external stakeholders to identify requirements, debug, and plan future directions. 10% communicating findings and technical concepts in professional English. #J-18808-Ljbffr University of Minnesota
