Job Title: Welders / Fitters (Skilled Trades)
Job Description

We are currently seeking skilled Pipe Fitters and Pipe Welders to join our team. There are four openings for Pipe Fitters and five openings for Pipe Welders, with positions available on both day and night shifts. Successful candidates will be required to complete an open-root weld test and demonstrate proficiency in SMAW and flux-core processes.

Responsibilities

• Complete an open-root weld test on a ⅜” plate with a ⅛” gap using SMAW and flux-core processes.
• Use proper equipment including chipping hammer, gloves, grinder, hood, safety glasses, steel-toed boots, welding stinger, and wire pliers.
• Follow specific test instructions and procedures, ensuring no porosity, slag inclusion, undercut, or lack of penetration.
• Maintain a continuous weld puddle during the root pass and adhere to test administrator's guidance.
• Back-gouge test plates and clean up any slag without grinding the inside of the back-gouge.
• Notify test administrator upon completion of each test phase and adhere to requirements for inspection and approval.

Essential Skills

• Proficiency in welding, fabrication, marine repair, blueprint reading, flux core, and MIG welding.
• Ability to pass the weld test demonstrating skills in open-root welding techniques.
• Knowledge of safety procedures and use of proper personal protective equipment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Prior ship or marine experience is not required but beneficial.
• Candidates must arrive with proper PPE and tools; failure to do so will result in being turned away.

Work Environment

Work is conducted outdoors at the Gulf Marine Shipyard located on the Port of Tampa. Two shifts are available: 7:30am to 4:00pm, and 4:30pm to 1:00am. Candidates should be prepared for a demanding schedule, working 6 to 7 days per week with potential overtime. The facility includes four drydocks and requires adherence to safety standards and dress code.

This is a Contract position based out of Tampa, Florida.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $26.00 - $28.00/hr.
