Job Description
Summary:
The Phlebotomist is responsible for performing venipuncture and capillary specimen collections on patients across all age groups in a hospital setting. This role ensures timely, accurate, and safe collection and labeling of specimens while providing excellent patient care. The phlebotomist works collaboratively with nursing staff, laboratory personnel, and other healthcare professionals to support diagnostic and therapeutic services.
Location: Hospital
Schedule: 4:00 AM–12:30 PM, 5:00 AM–1:30 PM, or 2:30 PM–11:00 PM.
Key Responsibilities:
Collect blood and other specimens via venipuncture or capillary techniques according to established protocols and procedures.
Accurately identify patients using two identifiers and ensure proper labeling and handling of all specimens.
Respond to stat, timed, and routine collection orders in a timely manner across all hospital units, including inpatient, outpatient, ED, and ICU settings.
Prepare specimens for transport to the laboratory and ensure proper documentation in the LIS (Laboratory Information System).
Maintain phlebotomy carts and trays, ensuring adequate stock of supplies and cleanliness.
Adhere to infection control, safety, and quality assurance protocols.
Demonstrate professionalism and compassion while interacting with patients, families, and staff.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Minimum of 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU).
High school diploma or GED required.
Completion of a certified phlebotomy training program preferred.
National Phlebotomy certification (ASCP, NHA, or equivalent) preferred
Prior hospital-based phlebotomy experience preferred.
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.
Must be able to stand, walk, and lift for extended periods.
Type : full-time contract employment 13-14 weeks with possibility to extend
