Duties and Responsibilities
The day-to-day duties of a truck driver generally include:
- loading and unloading cargo or products, sometimes using lifting or tipping devices
- ensuring cargo is safely secured throughout the trip
- operating the truck safely and following all road safety rules and traffic laws, especially those relating to trucks
- maintaining documentation, including logs, timesheets, and records of any safety incidents

Skills and Qualifications
To excel in their role, a truck driver must have a range of prerequisite skills and qualifications, including:
- be reliable
- proficiency in the use of GPS navigation systems
- a clean driving record
- ability to maintain concentration while driving for several hours at a time
- strong knowledge of traffic laws, particularly truck driving rules and regulations
- ability to lift heavy items
- strong time management skills
- problem-solving skills to deal with accidents and unforeseen incidents
- a valid truck driver’s license
