Department Summary The Political Science Department offers interdisciplinary study of American and foreign political systems, theories, institutions, and behaviors. Faculty engage students in critical analysis, research, and debate on contemporary issues, preparing them for careers in government, public service, law, academia, and beyond. Position Overview UNT Dallas invites applications for a full‑time Lecturer in Political Science, beginning Spring semester 2026. The successful candidate will teach four courses per semester, assist in curriculum development, and support the Classroom‑to‑Career initiative, which bridges academic achievement and career readiness through industry partnerships and experiential learning. Minimum Qualifications A master’s degree in political science, public administration, or a closely related field is required; a Ph.D. is preferred. Demonstrated teaching experience at the college or university level, including graduate teaching assistant, adjunct, or full‑time faculty roles. Strong knowledge of comparative politics, international relations, political theory, American politics, or public policy. Effective oral and written communication skills for lectures, discussions, and grading. A dedication to fostering student learning and engagement, with mentorship outside the classroom. Collegiality and professionalism in collaboration with department colleagues and the wider institution. A commitment to ongoing professional development and staying current with developments in the field through research and conference participation. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge Areas Political Systems & Theory: Deep understanding of ideologies, institutions, comparative politics, international relations, and public policy. Law and Government: Familiarity with legal codes, regulations, and democratic processes. Education & Pedagogy: Knowledge of curriculum design, instructional methods, and assessment strategies. Research Methods: Proficiency in qualitative and quantitative research, data analysis, and survey design. Skills Communication: Strong written and verbal communication for lectures, publications, and student engagement. Critical Thinking: Ability to analyze complex political issues and encourage informed debate. Instructional Design: Creating syllabi, lesson plans, and learning activities that meet academic standards. Research & Publication: Conducting original research and publishing in academic journals. Mentorship: Advising students on academic progress and career pathways. Abilities Facilitate Learning: Create inclusive and engaging classroom environments that promote student participation. Leadership: Guide students and contribute to departmental initiatives. Preferred Qualifications Ph.D. in Political Science or ABD status, demonstrating advanced expertise. Extensive teaching experience at the college or university level, including syllabi design and assessment of student learning outcomes. Record of research activity, conference presentations, and scholarly publications. Experience with innovative teaching methods, such as High Impact Practices, technology integration, active learning strategies, and experiential learning opportunities. Teaching and mentoring students from heterogeneous learning backgrounds. Interdisciplinary collaboration with colleagues from other disciplines. Professional engagement in academic or community organizations. Strong letters of recommendation attesting to teaching effectiveness, scholarly potential, and collegiality. Alignment of teaching and research interests with UNT Dallas political science department goals. Required License/Registration/Certifications Minimum requirements: Master’s degree in public policy or a closely related field. Ph.D. preferred for tenure‑track or research‑intensive positions. Optional credentials may include professional development certificates in pedagogy or online instruction, FERPA training, or institutional compliance certifications. Job Duties Prepare and deliver lectures, seminars, and tutorials on political science topics. Develop course syllabi, assignments, and exams. Grade student work and provide constructive feedback. Advise and mentor students on academic and career matters. Incorporate technology and innovative methods to enhance learning. Participate in departmental meetings, curriculum development, and university initiatives. Contribute to university committees and outreach programs, including internship and policy partnerships. Continuously update teaching methods and subject knowledge. Attend workshops and training sessions related to pedagogy and research.
