Numerai is the hardest data science tournament in the world, powering an AI hedge fund. Every week we distribute and process terabytes of data, ingest millions of stock market predictions, execute thousands of Machine Learning models, and pay a global community of data scientists with our cryptocurrency Numeraire (NMR). We are looking for a driven full-stack developer to join a small team responsible for developing, deploying, and maintaining web applications, APIs, and distributed services supporting the Numerai tournaments. Location: San Francisco Compensation: $150k-200k + usual benefits + flexible paid vacation Tech Stack: HTML, CSS, Vue, Elixir, Python, Airflow, Terraform, Docker, AWS, Postgres The Role As a full-stack software engineer you will build, deploy, and maintain infrastructure and services related to the Numerai data science tournaments. You will work on all aspects of the tournament including the public facing website, the backend services that accept submissions and score and pay users, and the cloud infrastructure running it all. You will also help manage our Ethereum ERC20 token and may work directly on the decentralization of the tournaments. Our tournament team covers a broad range of responsibilities, including: Running our daily tournament, scoring thousands of predictions, and running hundreds of user-created ML models Supporting and improving our website & APIs Developing and maintaining open-source tools for use by our community Helping with marketing initiatives Some projects in the next 6 months could include: Refining the incentive structure of our tournament to ensure predictions create investable signals Improving our user experience with features such as SSO, contextual documentation, model archival, table filtering, notifications, and data visualization Improve tournament gamification by building unlockable features based on performance such as model upgrades, profile customizability, badges, and exclusive chat rooms Decentralizing tournament services onto the EVM to support self-custody wallets You’ll be one of two engineers on this team; you will be expected to quickly take ownership of large projects and become a driving force for innovation in critical areas of our tournaments. You should be comfortable managing your time to ensure a balance of high quality and high output. All engineers at Numerai support their own work through on-call rotations. Who are you? You have worked in a commercial software environment for 3+ years You have experience in all technologies mentioned above As an experienced engineer, you will be familiar with data pipelines, CI/CD pipelines, cloud infrastructure, basic distributed computing concepts, and database management. You see technology as a means to solve important problems Bonus: You are familiar with Numerai, its complexities, and its vision You have a background in statistics, or finance Experience with Solidity and the EVM Our tech stack Our data scientists submit stock market predictions daily, using any technology they like. Our applications & processes are written in Python (using well-known libraries like Pandas, Numpy, boto3, and psycopg2) and Elixir Our infrastructure sits in AWS, managed by Terraform, orchestrated by Airflow, ECS, and ElasticBeanstalk backed by all the usual services like EC2, S3, RDS, and Lambda. Our cryptocurrency NMR is an ERC-20 token. We have smart contracts written in Solidity that can handle basic tournament operations.
