Overview
The VIRGINIA Class design program is entering a period of significant growth, with the NAVY seeking more and more capabilities for its in-service and under-development submarines. This includes upgrades and modernization of the existing fleet as well as Block V and Block VI new design efforts. D464 Pipe Stress is seeking multiple new engineers to support the upcoming VIRGINIA Class design effort. Pipe Stress Engineering: The D464 Pipe Stress engineering group is a highly technical, dynamic, and highly regarded group that supports all ship classes, both operational and new designs. For decades, Electric Boat's Pipe Stress group has been a center of excellence in the field of piping analysis, with unparalleled experience and capabilities anywhere else in the world. The Pipe Stress group has an experienced network of technical leaders ready to guide and develop less experienced personnel. D464 engineers will integrate into the project working groups, interfacing with internal and external customers including: project system engineers, structural engineers, acoustic engineers, designers, manufacturing engineers, shipyard construction trades, and Navy technical and program personnel to achieve program goals. Individuals should have a strong interest in performing detailed analyses with a solid academic background in the areas of statics, dynamics, mechanics of materials, materials engineering, heat transfer, computational analysis methods (e.g., finite element), and computer programming. Key Responsibilities: The D464 pipe stress engineer has multiple responsibilities, with a primary focus on analysis of piping systems as well as supporting structure for pipe and ventilations systems on the VIRGINIA Class nuclear submarines and special projects. Items under the cognizance of the pipe stress engineer include supporting the preliminary system development studies as well as the development and the analysis of the piping fluid systems. Responsibilities include ongoing support and revision of the system analysis during design development. Additionally, the pipe stress engineer will review and approve the piping system and ventilation duct supports to ensure that designed supports properly support the fluid piping and ventilation systems.
