Design Intern with a strong eye for trends, fabrics, and an ability to thrive in a fast-paced, creative environment. Our NYC-based internship offers college students the opportunity to immerse themselves in the world of fashion design, gain hands-on experience, and learn from industry leaders at Li & Fung. We are looking for dedicated, detail-oriented, and creative thinkers willing to engage at every level of the design process. This is a full-time, paid internship in our LF Markets USA division.
Start Date: September 2024
Hours per week: 40 hours
Duration: 6 months
Hourly Rate: $20.00 - $22.00 per hour
Location: New York, NY
* Please note that your portfolio or work samples must be submitted to be considered for the internship. * Roles and Responsibilities: - Conduct in-depth market research on current trends in theme, fabric, wash, trim, and style relevant to womenswear.
- Hand sketch detailed garment designs, showcasing an ability to illustrate intricate details and unique design elements.
- Create flat sketches using Adobe Illustrator and develop tech packs with a fundamental understanding of garment construction.
- Collaborate with designers to create original embroideries, prints, and patterns, utilizing both hand sketches and digital tools like Photoshop and Illustrator.
- Assist in developing seasonal trend reports and presentations for both new and existing clients, tailored to an elevated market.
- Help manage the fabric library, ensuring it is well-organized and up-to-date with the latest fabric samples.
- Maintain an organized design room and showroom to ensure a productive work environment.
- Support designers in daily tasks and projects, including fittings, mood board creation, and sample management.
Skills & Requirements: - Must be a Fashion Design major with a strong interest in elevated womenswear.
- Exceptional hand-sketching skills are required, with the ability to translate ideas into detailed illustrations.
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop) and knowledge of 3D software (CLO, Browzwear, etc.) is a plus.
- A strong team player with a passion for design and product development.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and set priorities effectively.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Strong analytical skills and decision-making capabilities.
