Overview This position is open until filled. The first review of applications will begin after 100 applications are received. Responsibilities Supports sworn and City staff both office and field settings by performing technical, non-sworn law enforcement and customer service duties to address citizen concerns. Responds to non-emergency calls for service from the Temple Sheriff’s Station and processes requests for criminal incident and traffic reports, collects evidence, interviews witnesses, and testifies in court as needed. Provides excellent customer service by interpreting and explaining City ordinances, policies, and procedures to the public. Conducts parking enforcement, patrols City streets and enforces laws and regulations applicable to non-moving vehicles including overnight and street sweeping enforcement, assists in identifying and removing abandoned vehicles in accordance with the California Vehicle Code. Assists with traffic and crowd control at accidents, street closures, City events, other incidents such as malfunctioning signal lights, and directs traffic as needed. Responds to public inquiries, provides information on City programs and services, directs individuals to appropriate facilities and events. Assists at community events and delivers presentations when required. Follows all City and departmental policies and performs other duties as assigned. Knowledge of Principles of community-oriented policing, and vehicle and parking codes and practices. Public relations and customer service practices and complaint resolution techniques. General law enforcement functions, methods and procedures; report writing techniques; safe driving practices; office and field protocols; and proper use and care of phones, computers, and specialized equipment. Use of office equipment, computers and law enforcement relevant software applications. Ability to Interpret and explain policies and procedures appropriately to enforce laws and municipal codes. Perform a variety of non-sworn law enforcement duties, including parking enforcement, crowd control, routine patrolling and incident documentation. Comprehend and effectively execute verbal and written directives. Prepare concise and accurate written and oral reports. Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of work. Maintain situational awareness of safe practices. Maintain required confidentiality of documents and records. Safely operate a motor vehicle. Education and Experience High School graduation or GED equivalent and one year of work experience involving frequent public interaction. College coursework and/or applicable training in criminal justice, paralegal studies, business administration, public administration, or a related field is desirable. Possession of an 832 P.C. Certificate (Laws of Arrest, Search and Seizure Training) is desirable. Possession of any other P.O.S.T. certifications or related training courses is desirable. Possession of a valid CPR/First Aid Certificate is desirable. Other Qualifications Possession of a valid Class C motor vehicle operator’s license issued by the State of California. Candidates will be expected to be trained within the first twelve months or as training is available. Mobile Digital Computer (MDC) training P.O.S.T. Basic Collision Investigation training Latent Fingerprint Certification training LASD PRELIMS Evidence Process training Physical Demands Position requires driving, sitting, standing, walking on level and slippery surfaces, reaching, twisting, and turning while entering and exiting a motor vehicle frequently. Incumbents work in all weather conditions, during the early morning or late at night hours, around moving traffic, and may also be subjected to stressful situations.
