Cloud Architect

Irys Technologies is seeking an experienced Cloud Architect in the Austin or San Antonio area to design and manage our multi-cloud infrastructure. This position will lead the architecture of scalable, secure, and cost-efficient cloud solutions across AWS, GCP, and Azure, with a focus on virtual machines (VMs) and Kubernetes. Proficiency in GitHub Flow is required for managing infrastructure code. Bonus points for expertise in hybrid infrastructure, as we support clients with on-premise and cloud integrations.

Project Duration: 4-6 Months

Workplace Type: Primarily Remote; In-office may be required on an as needed basis. If needed, the office is located in downtown San Antonio, TX.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement multi-cloud architectures using AWS, GCP, and Azure.
• Architect and manage Kubernetes clusters for containerized workloads.
• Configure and optimize virtual machines (EC2, Compute Engine, Azure VMs) for performance and cost.
• Develop infrastructure-as-code (IaC) using Terraform, Ansible, or CloudFormation, managed via GitHub Flow.
• Implement security best practices, including IAM, network security, and encryption.
• Monitor and optimize cloud costs, performance, and reliability using tools like CloudWatch, Stackdriver, or Azure Monitor.
• Collaborate with DevOps teams to streamline CI/CD pipelines and deployment processes.
• Lead disaster recovery planning and high-availability strategies.
• Document architecture designs, runbooks, and operational procedures.

Required Skills and Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
• 3+ years of experience in cloud architecture or DevOps roles.
• Expertise in AWS, GCP, and Azure cloud platforms, including compute, storage, and networking services.
• Hands-on experience with Kubernetes (EKS, GKE, AKS) and container orchestration.
• Proficiency in managing virtual machines and understanding their lifecycle.
• Proficiency in GitHub Flow, including branching, pull requests, and collaborative workflows for IaC.
• Strong knowledge of IaC tools (Terraform, Ansible, CloudFormation).
• Experience with networking (VPCs, subnets, VPNs) and security (IAM, firewalls, encryption).
• Familiarity with CI/CD tools (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI).
• Strong scripting skills (Python, Bash, or PowerShell) for automation.
• Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.

Preferred Skills

• Experience with hybrid infrastructure (e.g., AWS Outposts, Azure Stack, Google Anthos).
• Knowledge of serverless architectures (Lambda, Cloud Functions, Azure Functions).
• Familiarity with observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog).
• Understanding of compliance frameworks (SOC 2, ISO 27001, HIPAA).
• Experience with cost optimization tools (AWS Cost Explorer, Azure Cost Management).

Certifications (Preferred but Not Required)

• AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Professional
• Google Cloud Certified - Professional Cloud Architect
• Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert
• Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA)
• HashiCorp Certified: Terraform Associate
