Responsibilities
Major Accountabilities - Business Analyst Senior
- Conduct complex analysis of energy markets, system operations, resource evaluations, or other business or operational plans using advanced qualitative and quantitative techniques.
- Develop and support presenting information to leaders and executives highlighting resource plan alternatives based on market trends and conditions, wholesale market changes or other analytical findings critical to the business.
- Evaluate resource plans, market changes or other complex analyses requiring input from Legal, Regulatory, Resource Management, Fossil Generation, and/or Middle and Back Office.
- May perform analysis to optimize generation outages timing, determine economic power transactions, and assist traders in developing cost-effective strategies that support system reliability.
- Perform moderately complex quantitative analysis using production cost models to develop a comprehensive resource plan, support trading and the Fuels Department, implement the hedge plan or produce the corporate Fuel Budget.
- Evaluate historic and forecasted market data to develop forecasts and analytical/models to support business unit performance plans and efforts.
- Develop detailed and complex reports (e.g., Integrated Resource Plan) to support capital expenditures, major commitments and changes in operating strategy.
- Perform economic and financial studies, including cash flow analyses and revenue requirements.
- Provide technical and advanced quantitative methods in support of system operations, trading, middle office, and risk management.
- Participate in projects to build cooperative teams that overcome barriers and drive results.
- Maintain awareness of internal functions, stakeholders, regulators and technology trends; engage in industry forums to provide input for changes and impacts to APS.
Major Accountabilities - Business Consultant
- Conduct advanced analysis of energy markets, system operations, or other business plans using advanced qualitative and quantitative techniques; train and support team members in less complex analysis.
- Develop and present information to leaders and executives highlighting resource plan alternatives based on market trends and wholesale market changes or other analytical findings.
- Lead teams in evaluating resource plans and complex analyses requiring input from multiple departments.
- May perform analysis to optimize generation outages, determine economic power transactions, and assist traders in developing strategies for serving APS load obligations while maintaining reliability.
- Oversee analysts in quantitative analyses using production cost models to develop resource plans and support trading and fuel procurement decisions.
- Lead teams in evaluating historic and forecasted market data to develop forecasts and models to support performance plans.
- Develop detailed reports (e.g., Integrated Resource Plan) to support initiatives and decision-making related to capital expenditures and operating strategy.
- Perform economic and financial studies including cash flow, rates of return, and revenue requirements analyses.
- Provide technical and advanced quantitative methods in support of system operations, trading, middle office, and risk management.
- Provide leadership to build effective project teams and foster a cooperative culture that removes obstacles.
- Influence strategic direction of planning efforts and coordinate project management across APS departments.
- Maintain awareness of internal functions, stakeholders, regulators and technology trends; participate in industry forums to understand wholesale market impacts on APS.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
- BS/BA Degree in business, engineering, economics, finance, information technology, mathematics, physics or similar quantitative field
- Plus six (6) years related business experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience with demonstrated comparable knowledge and abilities.
- Knowledge of principles of economic unit commitment/dispatch, wholesale market operations and the functional and economic characteristics of Company power resources and the interconnected system is desired.
- Knowledge of natural gas markets including contracts and utilization within a power plant.
- Strong communication, presentation and writing skills.
- May be responsible for leading teams in evaluations and implementation of solutions.
Notes on Roles
- Business Analyst Senior and Business Consultant require similar foundational knowledge with progressive experience levels; responsibilities scale with role level.
- Working knowledge of natural gas markets and industry software/tools is desired.
- Must be able to lead teams and work with internal and external stakeholders at all levels of management.
- Proficient computer skills including industry-standard software for data analysis and reporting are desired as required by the position.
Hybrid and Location
Hybrid: Employees in hybrid roles work both remotely and in person. Hybrid employees are expected to work about 40% in person at an APS or other location.
*Employees are expected to reside in Arizona (or New Mexico for Four Corners-based employees).
*Working from a home office requires adequate technology and an ergonomic setup.
*Role types are subject to change based on business need.
