BLOC Coffee Company Line Cook/Barista

15-18 hours per week

Overview of BLOC:

We are an inner city ministry that lives and works in the neighborhoods we serve. Our mission exists to build relationships with our neighbors and share hope in brokenness. We target neighborhoods that are underserved. We have a staff size of about 45 where we have after school programs, sports performance center, houses for women in sex trafficking, men and women transitional homes, two coffee shops, screen printing, and other forms of ministry to love our neighbors.

Position Summary:

The BLOC Coffee Company is part of BLOC Ministries. It is a place for people to gather, a place where people can come together, have a conversation over a great cup of coffee, and experience community. It is an atmosphere where people can get to know their neighbors and develop relationships with one another, and where we can help strengthen the fabric of the neighborhood. BLOC Coffee Company seeks a self-motivated Line Cook with a strong desire to learn. A keen attention to detail (i.e., following recipes, plating, and cleaning) is essential.

Responsible for:

• Prepares food products consistently for all customers by adhering to all recipe and presentation standards. Also, follow health, safety and sanitation guidelines for all products
• Artistically plating customer orders
• Follow recipes and presentation specifications in a sanitary and timely manner
• Maintain a clean, safe, and healthy work environment according to health codes
• Operate standard kitchen equipment safety and efficiently
• Clean and maintain station, practicing good safety and sanitation; assist with the cleaning and organization of kitchen and equipment; restock items as needed throughout the shift; adhere to all sanitation and food production codes
• Dishwashing required

Qualifications / Experience:

• Experience working in a commercial kitchen preferred
• Excellent communication; superior customer service; high degree of ethics
• Proactive approach to problem-solving with a calm, professional demeanor
• A demonstrated passion for food preparation
• Excellent time management skills; ability to self-direct; detail oriented
• High level of organization; excellent time management skills; ability to self-direct
• Ability to work well within groups
• A passion for small business and quality products

Pay: $10 an hour plus tips
