Job Description

The Department of Italian Studies at New York University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Italian Renaissance Literature beginning September 1, 2025.

Applicants should have native or near-native fluency in the Italian language , significant teaching experience , and a strong record of research and publications in the field of Italian literature from the period 1400-1600, whereby "Italian" should be understood as both referring to Italy?s literary traditions and their transnational and multilingual intersections. We welcome applicants whose primary expertise in Italian Renaissance Literature may be complemented by interests in fields such as (but not limited to) environmental studies, gender studies, Mediterranean studies, the "global" Renaissance, diaspora studies, disability studies, technology studies .

They should be committed to educating students in programs hosted by the Italian Studies department , at both the undergraduate (major and minor) and the graduate level (MA and PhD), while also being willing to explore inter-departmental and school-wide teaching opportunitie s such as NYU?s CORE curriculum, the Public Humanities initiative, and collaborations with interdisciplinary centers such as MARC (NYU?s Medieval and Renaissance Center). Ultimately, they will be looking forward to working within a department that emphasizes and encourages inter- and trans-disciplinary research and teaching , and with a faculty whose work covers areas as diverse as literary and philological studies from the medieval period to the present, literary theory, film and media studies, history, art history, visual culture and music.

Pay Transparency Statement

In compliance with NYC?s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $80,000 to $120,000. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate?s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.

Candidates should possess a PhD by August 31, 2025, have a research agenda that indicates the potential to be a leader in the field of Italian Renaissance Literary Studies, and have demonstrated excellence in teaching.
