  Position: American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter

Rate: Up to $51/hour

Work Setup:  only required to come to school 30 days per school year

We're looking for a dedicated and experienced American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter to join our team! This unique opportunity offers a flexible schedule with only 30 days of on-site work required per school year. What You'll Do:

As our ASL Interpreter, you'll be a crucial link in ensuring clear communication between hearing and Deaf or hard-of-hearing individuals. Your responsibilities will include:

• Accurate Interpretation: Providing accurate and impartial interpretation services from spoken English to American Sign Language (ASL) and from ASL to spoken English.
• Diverse Settings: Interpreting in diverse environments, including classrooms, meetings, conferences, and other events.
• Accessibility: Ensuring clear communication for individuals with varying levels of ASL proficiency.
• Ethical Conduct: Maintaining confidentiality and adhering to the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) code of professional conduct.
• Adaptability: Adapting interpretations to accommodate different signing styles and regional sign variations.
• Clarification: Clarifying and explaining concepts as needed while maintaining the integrity of the message.
• Inclusive Environment: Assisting in creating an inclusive and accessible environment for Deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals.
• Professional Growth:   Engaging in professional development to stay updated on best practices in ASL interpreting and Deaf culture.

What You'll Need:

• Proven experience as an ASL Interpreter (required)
• A Pennsylvania resident; preferably within or near Philadelphia
• Valid ASL Certificate (preferred)

• Ability to sit for extended periods while working.
• Constant hand, finger, and arm use, and excellent eye-hand coordination.
• Ability to hear clearly and speak intelligibly.
• Ability to occasionally function in activities involving walking, bending, squatting, reaching, and climbing stairs.
• Ability to occasionally stand for extended periods.
• Ability to see and perform visual activities such as closing paperwork, using a computer monitor, reading, and writing.
