  1. Job Description:
To maintain and repair and generally to keep the physical school facilities in a condition of good repair and safety so that full educational use of them may be made at all times.

  1. Job Qualifications:
  • Must obtain and maintain a AZ DPS IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card (required).
  • High School Graduate, GED, or previous experience in one or more of the standard building trades, or the exhibited desire and ability to perform the required duties.
  • Fluency in writing, speaking and reading Spanish preferred.
  • Must possess a valid State of Arizona Drivers License. A CDL License is preferred.
  1. Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Work with various materials, equipment, tools and techniques of building or mechanical trades, or the ability to acquire a knowledge within a reasonable time period of the methods and techniques of a standard trade.
  • Learn and operate the tools and equipment of a standard trade and perform basic skilled tasks associated with the field assigned.
  • Operate and maintain in good condition various trucks, forklifts, lawn machinery, power tools and equipment as required.
  • Assist other maintenance workers in making electrical, carpentry, plumbing, masonry, painting, mechanical and related repairs and installations.
  • Install or repair or assist in the installation or repair of wiring systems and electrical fixtures and equipment.
  • Repair or install doors, windows, floors, walls and other parts of buildings.
  • Perform drywall, texturing, painting (inside and outside), and concrete work.
  • Make repairs to and perform maintenance of roofs.
  • Assist in the installation or repair of, and have a general knowledge of, the heating and cooling systems. Change filters and generally service components of these systems.
  • Perform maintenance and installations compatible to skills as required.
  • Clean and care for district tools and equipment and keep safe and in good repair.
  • Maintain in good condition and store for safekeeping all property, supplies and materials of the district.
  • Perform all duties and assignments and use materials and operate equipment in a safe and responsible manner, using all safety equipment or clothing which might be reasonable to ensure the safety of self, fellow employees and students.
  • Maintain athletic fields, parking facilities, buildings, grounds and all areas of the district.
  • Perform emergency custodial, maintenance and other tasks as directed and needed.
  • Assist in the receiving operation of the school.
  • Assemble, build and repair school furnishings, and move from location to location as required.
  • Assist the head custodian or custodian in building security, in locking, unlocking and repairing doors, windows, window glass, shades, etc.
  • Perform general grounds work as directed. Assist in keeping the district campuses clean and orderly.
  • Clean and remove debris from all parking areas.
  • Provide emergency maintenance and repair service to areas, rooms, buildings where incidents have occurred requiring it.
  • Assist in keeping the district vehicles clean, i.e., washed, waxed, vacuumed, etc.
  • Work efficiently and cooperatively with other staff members.
  • Work independently and in groups and be a self-starter.
  • Listen to, understand and carry out oral and written instructions and directives, and respond with oral and written reports as required.
  • Assist in all safety programs, drills and evacuation proceedings as required.
  • Requisition and use supplies, materials, and tools as trained and in an appropriate manner.
  • Assume responsibility for and secure the district assigned keys which are assigned to you for your job use and safekeeping.
  • Attend classes, in-services and seminars as needed to improve knowledge and skills and to keep current with the latest in services, equipment, materials and functions as they pertain to the district's needs.
  • Maintain good personal cleanliness and dress appropriately for the position.
  • Practice good public relations techniques with students, staff, administration and parents, demonstrating a cordial and friendly manner.
  • Practice regular and consistent attendance, arriving and departing at the designated times for your position.
  • Refrain from the use of inappropriate, obscene or foul language.
  • Assist in keeping the district campuses clean and orderly.
  • Maintain district security by locking all doors and gates for which you are responsible, being on campus only during reasonable hours, and reporting to the Director of Maintenance or Superintendent any problems with locks, lighting, windows, utilities, etc.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Maintenance or Superintendent.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift up to fifty (50) pounds, such as boxes, supplies, etc. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material, and the ability to adjust focus. The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and to interact with the public and other staff.
